A person who is ambidextrous is considered to be equally skilled with both hands. So why Ambidexter Management?

One of the dilemmas organizations face is that they need to be equally skilled in two opposing mind setss

• On a day-to-day basis they need to run the operation of the organizaton.
• On a long-term basis they need to change the organization to adapt it to changing circumstances.

In other words, they need to have Ambidexter Management.

It is where the hands meet that things start to happen!

We're not your typical company with a head office, a CEO, a bunch of partners, directors and invoice-generating worker bees.

Although that model works well for a lot of companies and the people they employ, we did not want to go that route. We are a network of like-minded people who take pride in helping their clients getting things done. Like-minded does not mean we always agree on everything. Quite often we don't! But there are a few things we all agree on:

• You reap what you sow!
• If you don't sow you won't reap at all
• If you don't take care of what you sow you may reap but not as much or of as good a quality as possible

It started in 2003 in the Netherlands when five project managers, all working for the same firm, got together to discuss their future and how to make the most of it. As you can imagine, ideas flowed freely. As with any brainstorming session, when it came to making decisons and agreeing on the destinations and the route it was not as easy. In the end they all agreed to let the matter rest for a while. But the seeds were sown! Out of the original five that got together two, Arie den Ouden and Kees Steijsiger, started Ambidexter Management BV in the Netherlands. The other three all pursued other goals. One started his own company, one changed jobs and one moved to Canada.

When Erik Hamburger arrived in Canada with his family he took a full year off to get oriented and take a breather from a very hectic couple of years. He had stayed in close contact with Arie and Kees and slowly the idea evolved to go international with Ambidexter Management. And thus Ambidexter Management Inc. was born in 2005.
